TL;DRAbstract

Background: Pressure ulcers (PU) cause suffering for the patient and are the second most expensive care cost in Sweden. The healthcare personnel are by Swedish law obliged to perform adequate nursing care documentation, containing planned and taken nursing care actions. Nevertheless research has shown a lack of documentation regarding PU. Aim: The aim of the study was to investigate the presence and frequency of documentation regarding nursing care for prevention of PU pre, per and post anesthesia. Method: From three anesthesia units 45 patient records were included by a random selection. Its documentation were audited and the results were presented by descripted statistics. Results: The results showed a lack of documentation regarding preventive nursing care actions for PU development and skin assessments pre, per and postoperatively.
