TL;DRAbstract
To facilitate the fulfilment of Sweden’s environmental objectives, there are interim targets regarding e.g. food waste. For instance: at least 50 % of food waste should be source separated and biologically treated to make use of energy and/or nutrients, by 2018 the latest. To achieve this, the number of households with access to separate collection of food waste must increase. The aim of this master thesis is to compare different collection systems for food waste from multi-family residences. The most common collection system today is waste bins, located in separate houses for waste management or in basements. However, due to several factors there is an increasing interest in alternative collection systems. The collection systems that are compared with waste bins are: food waste grinders with sedimentation tanks, underground waste containers, stationary and mobile pneumatic refuse collection systems as well as dry conservation of food waste.
