The competitiveness of territorial units can be developed basing on a variety of regional and local resources as well as certain forms of activities like for example tourist activity which in many cases becomes a vital factor improving competitiveness of local communities and regions. The article studies the possibilities to improve competitiveness of the eastern borderland communities of Poland basing on rural tourism activities. In respondents’ opinion, this is an attractive way of development which can become profi -table to local communities in the long run
