Biological markers for differential diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders

0

TL;DRAbstract

The concept of “Alzheimer’s disease” has been changed several times since the original proposal. A case reported by Alois Alzheimer in 1905 was named “Alzheimer’s disease” by Emil Kraepelin in his “Textbook of Psychiatry 5th Edition”, which was initially proposed to differentiate presenile-onset dementia due to unknown causes from progressive paralysis and cerebrovascular dementia. Since then, the term “Alzheimer’s disease” has been used to describe the typical presenile-onset neurodegenerative dementia like Pick’s disease, which is another typical presenile onset neurodegenerative dementia. Alzheimer’s disease and Pick’s disease had been categorized as idiopathic dementias in presenile age for a long time.
