TL;DRAbstract

This research is aimed at proposing a model for urban open space management in urban densely populated informal settlement (kampung) in Yogyakarta, based on the inhabitant's activity system. Data collection was done through interview, observation, sketching and drawing, and photograph taking. Data analysis was undertaken using descriptive statistics, classification and place centered-map. It is concluded that there is an obvious and specific activity pattern related to the use of open spaces, which are mainly caused by the limited availability of space within their houses. The physical and spatial characteristics of the open spaces are close to activity centers of public facilities and on strategic locations. An alternative model is proposed for open space management principles, which has no consider;(a) the daily domestic activities; (b) strategic locations such as road ends, intersections, as well as within the proximity of neighborhood facilities; (c) the need for supporting facilit
