Estudo comparativo entre dois metodos de estimativa da maturação ossea

TL;DRAbstract

The aim ofthe present work was to evaluate the applicability and the reliability of two methods of skeletal maturation in Brazi]ian children. GRAVE & BROWN (1976) skeletal maturation method, that use the sequence of ossification events observed in handwrist radiographs and the method ofHASSEL & FARMAN (1995) that evaluates skeletal maturation using the morphologic variations observed in the cervical vertebras two, three and four, visualized in lateral cefalometric x-rays. The sample was composed by 240 Brazilian children, ofboth sexes, in good health condition and with age from 7 to 15 years. Nine groups were formed, distributed by sex and chronological age, with interval of 12 months among each group. The radiographs were examined and reexamined by six examiners, and the obtained data were submitted to the statistical test o f SPEARMAN. The results demonstrated that, for the determination of the bony maturation levei of the individual, GRAVE & BROWN method presented better correlation
