TL;DRAbstract

In this work, I examine two different practice methods effects on practice of a technical study. The technical study represents rapid technical passages found in many solo pieces for my instrument, the Frenchhorn. One of the methods is to first play slow and gradually increase the tempo while the second method implies to play in tempo from the start but practice each interval separately. I describe research about practice and about phenomenology theories. To test the two methods I practiced the technical study with these methods and I also video recorded my practices. The methods were found to focus more on hitting the right notes and play rhythmically than playing with great tone. The result also suggests that how I use the methods affects the result as much as how the methods are designed.
