Random Fatigue of 2024-T3 Aluminum under Two Spectra with Identical Peak-Probability Density Functions

15

TL;DRAbstract

Broad-band and bimodal spectra random fatigue tests were performed on 2024-T3 aluminum alloy specimens. The specimens were axially loaded through an electrohydraulic closed loop test system. The two spectra were produced by filtering the output of a random noise generator. These filters were adjusted to provide nearly identical ratios of the number of zero crossings with positive slope per second to the number of positive peaks per second for the two signals. There was no significant difference in mean fatigue lives of both spectra at the 0.01 significance level.
