Experimental Comparative Synthesis on the Scramjet Powered Waverider Vehicle in HEG and F4 within the LAPCAT II project

3

TL;DRAbstract

The experimental measurements on a complex, hydrogen fuelled, 1.5 m long Mach 8 scramjet powered flight experiment configuration consisting of intake, combustor and thrust nozzle will be reported in this paper. The outer mold line of this small scale flight configuration (SSFE) was derived from the full scale Mach 8 cruiser MR 2 proposed by ESA-ESTEC within
\nthe EC co-funded LAPCAT II project. In the framework of LAPCAT II [21], the two major European free jet facilities, the High Enthalpy Shock Tunnel Göttingen (HEG) of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the F4 hot shot facility of the French Aerospace Lab (ONERA) were used to perform these measurements. The main emphasis of the tests in HEG and F4 is placed on Mach 8 flight conditions. The paper will give an experimental synthesis on both campaigns and discuss the complementary results in both facilities.
