TL;DRAbstract

Feeding habits of pine marten (Martes martes) has been studied in three different plots on Sa Coma Calenta (Andratx, Mallorca) in a period of one year. These plots are representative of predominant habitats in the Tramuntana mountains, where pine marten is an opportunist mammal. The diet of pine marten is composed by invertebrates (mainly Coleoptera), vegetables (figs and Olea europea fruits seasonally abundant). Mammals (rodents predominant), birds and reptiles (Tarentola mauritanica), are present in spring-summer, when more available. The incidence of pine marten on game species (with low density because of environmental factors and decrease of rural activities) is low. Rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus, three young specimens) and one specimen of thrush (Turdus sp.) have been detect in 4 of 108 excrements studied during one year.
