Cultural models of diversity in America : the psychology of difference and inclusion
TL;DRAbstract
Various cultural models of diversity that can be found in America are summarized. Models of diversity in essence are representations of culture and humanity--specifically, the important aspects of being human and the dimensions along which people differ, and how to come to terms with these differences. It is noted that although social psychology has provided many tools for the dismantling of intergroup bias, it has not looked carefully at the ideological assumptions that undergird its theories and applications, and it has not taken stock of the heterogeneity of representations of diversity that can be engaged by different individuals and different groups in different contexts and situations.
