Aerosols characterization and sources in different European urban atmospheres: Paris, Seville, Florence and Milan
TL;DRAbstract
This paper presents the main results obtained during the CARAMELL EC project for the characterization of atmospheric particles in four different European cities: Paris, Seville, florence and Milan. The aim of our investigation was to find the main atmospheric sources responsible for the damage of exposed surfaces of monuments and to define relationships between atmospheric concentrations in multi-pollutant environments and the aesthetic effect of soiling. For this purpose, experiments were conducted at each site during a one-week intensive campaign followed by a whole-year monitoring of the basic parameters of the aerosol (mass, and chemical composition comprising carbon and major ions in two size fractions) in orden to capture weekly and seasonal trends.
