TL;DRAbstract

’idazolam has gained recent popularity in an-esthesiology, pediatrics, and dentistry be-.cause of its wide margin of safety, rapid on-set, 1 anterograde amnesia, and adequate anxiolysis.Midazolam can be given intranasally, which is less in-vasive than intravenous administration and gives highplasma levels. 2 Most previous reports on midazolamrecommended a therapeutic dose of 0.1-0.3 mg/kg forLntranasal 3administration to obtain adequate sedation. The objective of this study was to compare the plasmalevels of midazolam obtained from 0.2 mg/kg and 0.4mg/kg doses given intranasally in Rhesus monkeysover a. 60-min time period. The results of this studywould provide the clinician with a better understand-ing of the plasma levels of this drug given by the in-tranasal route, particularly at the higher dosage.Materials and methodsFive young adult Rhesus monkeys were included inthis study. The weight of the animals ranged from 3.4 to4.0 kg, with a mean of 3.6 kg. Each animal was restrainedand an
