TL;DRAbstract

The Woodvine Nature Reserve is a 377 hectare property situated in southeast Tasmania,about 45 kilometres east of Hobart and c. 8 kilometres from Forcett. The most recent owner of the property was H.E. Ernie Shaw, his great-grandparents having settled there in 1861. Desirous of protecting the animals that lived there, and wishing to preserve its unique vegetation, Mr Shaw donated the property to the Crown in 1998, and because of its relatively low levels of clearing and very low grazing pressure, its high order of natural values resulted in it being proclaimed as a nature reserve in 2001. In contrast with much of the neighbouring land, the reserve retains an extensive cover of native vegetation (c. 85% of its area) that is deemed to be important for the conservation of rare and threatened species of plants and animals and vegetation communities at the local, regional State and national level.
